What's a slower swap?

Slow carbs raise blood sugar gently. Fast ones spike it. Easy swaps:

  • Oat porridge

    instead of cornflakes

  • Grainy bread

    instead of white bread

  • Chapatti

    instead of boiled potato

Why cut back on sugar for your skin?

Swapping fast carbs for slower ones meant fewer breakouts in two small trials. Ten days is your test run, not the whole story.

the nerdy bit

In the best-known trial, 43 young men went on a low-glycemic-load diet or a standard one for 12 weeks, and lesion counts fell by 23.5 on the low-GL diet against 12.0 on the standard one (Smith et al., 2007). A Korean trial of 32 people found fewer lesions and, in skin samples, smaller oil glands after 10 weeks on a low-GL diet (Kwon et al., 2012). The American Academy of Dermatology puts it this way: "Findings from small studies suggest that following a low-glycemic diet may reduce the amount of acne you have" (AAD). The limits, in short: an 8-week trial of 58 teenage boys found both diets helped and couldn't tell them apart (Reynolds et al., 2010), the low-GL group in the first trial also lost about 2.9 kg, and the AAD's 2024 acne guidelines found the evidence too thin for a diet recommendation (AAD, 2024).

Quick questions

Does every snack count?

Yes. Every meal and snack you log that day needs to pass Glowcast's sugar-impact check.

Why only 10 days?

It's a reset, not a diet. The diet trials ran 8 to 12 weeks, so think of this as the start of a habit.

What if I miss a day?

Your streak resets and the challenge keeps going, but the badge needs every day, so a missed day means no badge this time.

Do I have to count calories?

No. Glowcast looks at how fast a meal raises your blood sugar, not its calories.

Food inspo, not medical advice.
